Wolves Notch First Win of the Season, 2-1, Over Oklahoma City


OKLAHOMA CITY---The Chicago Wolves used a pair of second period goals to earn their first win of the season, 2-1, over the Oklahoma City Barons at the Cox Convention Center Sunday night.

 

Forwards Riley Holzapfel and Darren Haydar lit the lamp for Chicago while Wolves goaltender Edward Pasquale (1-0-0) stopped 28 of 29 shots in his professional debut.

 

Entering the second period trailing 1-0, Chicago (1-1-0-0) tied the score just 83 seoncds into the middle frame. Right wing Spencer Machacek held the puck behind the Oklahoma City net and passed the puck to Holzapfel who one-timed a shot past Barons goaltender Martin Gerber, top shelf.

 

Haydar netted the game-winner for the Wolves at 8:30 of the second period. Left wing Fredrik Pettersson fired a slap shot from the high slot, which was stopped by Gerber, but the puck trickled into the crease and Haydar tapped it into the empty net.

 

Gerber (0-2-0) posted 28 saves for Oklahoma City (0-2-0-0).

 

The Barons opened scoring when left wing Teemu Hartikainen picked up a loose puck in the slot and flipped a shot over the glove Pasquale at 13:05.

 

The next Wolves contest is an Amtrak Rivalry game against the Milwaukee Admirals at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee on Fri., Oct. 15 at 7 p.m.
