Wolves Start Preseason With Shootout Win Against Peoria

Right wing Pat Dwyer led the way offensively for the Wolves during regulation, chipping in two goals and two assists.  Four of Chicago's five goals were scored on the power play.

Centers Kevin Doell, Jared Ross and Scott Kelman all scored in the shootout while goaltender Michel Robinson recorded saves on three of the four shooters he faced.

Chicago (1-0-0-0) posted a 4-2 mark in shootouts last season.

Peoria (0-0-0-1) is one of four new opponents the Wolves will face in the regular season this year.

The Wolves opened the scoring with the man advantage midway through the first period when center Brad Schell spotted defenseman Dion Hyman open in the right slot.  Dwyer, who was circling around the top of the left circle, floated a cross-ice pass that Hyman was able to one-time past Rivermen netminder Jason Bacashihua at 10:32 of the opening frame.

Bacashihua posted nine saves on 10 shots, before being replaced by Chris Beckford-Tseu at 29:20.  Beckford-Tseu (0-1) turned aside 15 of 20 shots.

After a scoreless second period, Peoria evened the score, 1-1, on a power-play goal off the stick of Colin Hemingway.  Defenseman Trevor Byrne ripped a slap shot from the point that deflected off a Wolves defender and landed in the slot.  Hemingway gobbled it up and banged a snap shot past Wolves netminder Michel Robinson at 5:58 of the final frame.

Robinson (1-0) notched 15 saves on 20 shots.  Chicago native Gregg Naumenko started the contest, recording 17 saves on 17 shots before being replaced by Robinson at 29:20.

Just over three minutes later, Peoria grabbed the lead, 2-1, on Hemingway's second power-play marker of the night.  Chris Durno added to that lead, 3-1, by tallying his first goal of the preseason at 10:29 of the third period.

Dwyer netted two goals within 77 seconds to even the game at three apiece.

Then, Hemingway completed the hat trick with his third man-advantage goal of the night to put the Rivermen up, 4-3.

Just over two minutes later, Wolves right wing Vlad Serov scored when he was left alone at the top of the crease to tie the game at four.

Chicago then took the lead, 5-4, on a goal by Kelman at 18:30 of the final frame.

The Rivermen evened the game, 5-5, in the last minute of regulation when defenseman Aaron MacKenzie lit the lamp at 19:12.

The Wolves continue their preseason slate against the Rivermen at the Hoffman Estates Community Center and Ice Arena on Mon., Sept. 26, at 7 p.m.
